What is your Sign?

A sign can have many meanings today.  Signs direct our travels, tell us what we need to do, or advertise something we need, while others like astrological signs, describe who we are or what personality type we are.  What happens when a person comes across a sign is really up to them.

Stormwater Sign in Yellow Creek Park

A few new signs are popping up in the Yellow Creek Watershed, namely in Poland Township, Poland Village, Poland Woods, and Yellow Creek Park.  The signs are a product of  great collaboration between Eastgate Regional Council of Governments, Mill Creek MetroParks, Poland Village and Poland Township officials, and the Poland Local School District.  Funded with a $5,000 Ohio Environmental Education Fund (OEEF) mini grant, the signs were created to promote facts about stormwater.  The signs seek to help individuals identify his or her role in managing stormwater by providing  a sense of 1) place within the Yellow Creek Watershed and 2) individual responsibility in protecting surface waters, especially our local drinking water source, and 3) simple solutions to personally manage stormwater to protect and/or improve water quality.

Five (5) signs are located stream side at the following publicly accessible locations (from south to north):
  1. Hummingbird Hill Dr.
  2. Poland Seminary High School
  3. Poland Woods (near Yellow Creek at the suspension bridge)
  4. In front of Poland Village Hall
  5. Yellow Creek Park

If you come across one of these signs, take a moment to think about what type of impact you may have on stormwater in your yard, community or the very spot you are standing.  Remember, what happens when a person comes across a sign is really up to them. In a watershed, our personal decisions regarding stormwater affect those around us.
